"Welcome to Trinity, South Carolina, a small town with more chills than charm, where sinister Sheriff Lucas Buck won't let anyone stand in the way of his evil plans!"

As many of my friend know I am a big TV fan and now thanks to tv box sets and services like netflixs, I am able to catch up on current shows and see old ones that I missed, like American Gothic.
-
Few people remember this show, especially since it was cancelled almost 13 years ago, but it's one and only season has been released on DVD and I must admit I am quite hooked on this sci-fi/horror drama. I think that almost everyone I know would love this show, or at least some aspect of it, so let me give you a breif, non-spoiler, summary and you can decide for yourself.

The show's main focus is on young Caleb Temple who has had a very rough life. On the day he was born his mother died under suspicious circumstances and his sister, Merlyn was forever tramuatized by what she had seen. His mother's death is eventually ruled a suicide. Unable to cope with the tradgedy and what's become of his family, Caleb's father becomes a lonely alcoholic.
-
The show begins on Caleb's 10th birthday. Merlyn won't stop screaming and his father can't take it anymore and goes after her. Fearful, Caleb runs to get the Sheriff Lucas Buck. By the time Caleb makes his way back to the house, his remaining family members are dead, again under mysterious circumstances.
-
After the tradgedy, Sheriff Buck decides it would be best if Caleb is raised by him, but one thing stands in his way. Dr. Matt Crower, a new arrival in Trinity who does not trust Sheriff Buck. Dr. Crower turns Caleb over to social services and a hearing is held.
-
At the hearing, Caleb's only remaining relative, reporter Gail Emory, returns to Trinity after a 20 year absence. Gail had left due to the death of her own parents, and feeling for young Caleb, she agrees to stay and is awarded custody. Her only goal in retunring home was to care for her orphaned cousin, but with a little motivation from Dr. Crower, Gail decides to start investigating the town of Trinity, Sheriff Lucas Buck, and all of the mysterious deaths that have occured.

When I read about this show, I was expecting it to be a lot different. Even after seeing the pilot I wasn't expect what I've seen. This show has everything from comedy, to drama, to the unexplained. American Gothic is 22 episodes on 6 discs, is currently available everywhere, and I highly suggest you check it out!
